Spring 2012 Adult Registration

Registration for the LYSA Adult leagues is now open. Click here to register online or you can download the registration form here. Registration deadline is February 10th.

If you are interested in playing in our Coed league, Men's league or both you can register at the LYSA soccer office, call 261-5425. Women must be 18 yrs old and men must be 23 yrs old before December 31st to play in the Coed league. Men must be 18 yrs old before December 31st to play in the Men's league.

For new players, the primary team is $80 and the secondary team is $50. For returning players, the primary team is $55 and the secondary team is $40.

**Registered players who are not picked up by a team will be assigned to an existing team as long as spots are available.**

CENTER OF EXCELLENCE TRAINING WITH LYSA/CSC DIRECTORS OF COACHING

CAJUN SOCCER CLUB is proud to offer extra training opportunities for our players through the Center of Excellence (COE). The Centers are a personal soccer training concept based on individual or small group sessions with trainer to player ratios of 1:1 to 1:6. The Centers training staff will focus primarily on technical training sessions in order to advance each individual at their own pace. The Centers are a great tool to become a more successful player in the areas of technique with the ball, knowledge of the game, and soccer specific fitness.

ULL Women Win NCSAA Academic Team Award

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced its 2010-11 Team Academic Awards on Thursday, and the Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team was one of the teams honored marking back-to-back seasons on the list.

“I am very proud of the girls to say the least, being a complete student athlete is what they pride themselves on,” head soccer coach Scot Wieland said. “Their character both in the classroom and on the field is amazing, and to earn a National Team Academic Award is great team accomplishment.”

A total of 787 soccer teams (219 men, 568 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 academic year.

The Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team boasted a 3.26 cumulative team GPA to earn the honor.

Louisiana State Adult Indoor Soccer Championship Tournament

Dear soccer enthusiast,

This letter is to cordially invite your team to take part in the Louisiana State Adult Indoor Soccer Championship Tournament to be held in the beautiful new Premier Soccer Center in St Gabriel, Louisiana on November 19th and 20th, 2011. This tournament will be the first ever adult indoor soccer state tournament held in Louisiana and will be in a format that all of the players will enjoy while competing for a state title. Premier Soccer Center is climate-controlled and state of the art — no chance of rainouts or other problems that could normally be associated with tournament play. This state tournament will be for Men’s Open teams although we encourage players of all ages to participate. The Louisiana State Adult Indoor Soccer Championship Tournament is fully sanctioned by the United States Indoor Soccer Association as the official adult indoor state Cup for Louisiana. The top 3 finalists from this tournament will qualify for the National Indoor Championship in Chicago, Illinois this upcoming Spring 2012. Please consider entering your team(s) in this tournament. Team entry deadline is November 11th. This tournament will fill up fast, and teams will be accepted on a first come/first paid/first accepted basis—DON’T MISS OUT!!

INFO—
The tournament will be played on Saturday, November 19th and Sunday, November 20th, 2011. Deadline to enter is November 11th. THIS IS A UNITED STATES INDOOR SOCCER ASSOCIATOIN SANCTIONED EVENT AND IS NOT GOVERNED BY LOUISIANA SOCCER ASSOCIATION (LSA) - meaning that teams do not have to comply with LSA registration/roster restrictions to take part. Currently rostered LSA teams, however, will receive first priority in acceptance to the tournament.

FORMAT—
Teams will be guaranteed 2 games each and the games will consist of two 20 minute halves. On field format is 6v6—5 players on the field plus a GK. Individual brackets of four teams will be created. Depending on format, 4 teams will advance to semifinals, with a final comprised of the semifinal winners. A third place game between the losers of the semifinal matches will also be played to determine 3rd and 4th place, respectively. Games will start at 7:00 AM on both Saturday and Sunday and will be played all day. Trophies will be presented to the tournament champion and runner up.

ROSTERS—
Roster minimum is 9 players, roster maximum is 18 players. Current LSA teams are encouraged to split their rosters into 2 teams, with ability to add players as guests being very open. Players do NOT have to be currently registered LSA members to participate. All players will be required to sign a liability waiver in order to participate. Waivers must be presented at check-in. Players can only play for one team during the tournament. Once a player has been assigned to a roster at check-in, he is locked onto that roster for the duration of the tournament. Upon acceptance, a team roster form and player waiver will be emailed to coaches to fill out and present at check-in (possibly Friday night, November 18th or early Saturday morning, November 19th).

COST—
Entry fee is $20 per player on team roster.
Teams will not be accepted until entry fees have been received. After November 11th, all entry fees will be non-refundable.

Lafayette Referee Gets 2nd Game

Lafayette referee Mark DeClouet did something right as MLS has asked him to be the 4th official in a second game. This time he will travel to Salt Lake City to be the 4th official for Real Salt Lake v Houston Dynamo. Tune in to Fox Soccer Channel (channel 246/1246 on Cox) Saturday night at 8:00 to see him in action.

Immediately after the game, and sadly not televised, Mark will be in charge of the reserve league game.

Lafayette Referee in MLS

Day Camps:
Provide technical and tactical instructions of the game. Emphasis is placed upon individual ball control and skill development through a coaching combination of maximum participation, progressive training sessions, and small sided games.

Finishing and Keeper Camp:
The curriculum focuses on the technical part of scoring. Each player will receive repetition in scoring opportunities using different parts of the body. All Goalkeepers will receive technical training and repetition in shot saving opportunities.

Baton Rouge Indoor Tournament

You are invited to participate in the Men's O-30 Winter Classic Tournament at Baton Rouge's brand new indoor facility, Premier Soccer Center. The tournament will be held on Saturday, February 19th and Sunday, February 20th. Teams are guaranteed a minimum of 3 games and there will be two divisions of competition. The top teams in each division will advance to the semifinal rounds of play to determine the teams who will play in the finals. Games are played in a 6v6 format with 5 field players and a goalkeeper. A roster size of 10-12 players is recommended. Registration is $300 per team or $30 if you register as a free agent. You can register online at our website (click on Divisions to register). The deadline to register is Wednesday, February 16th.

In closing, indoor soccer is a fast and exciting version of "the beautiful game" and it's our hope that this tournament will give players in South Louisiana a chance to experience it. I'm having issues commenting, so I'll just update the post. There is only so much money per team, which limits the number of games that can be played. In this case, there is enough money for 9 games each. So you will end up playing 8 of the other 11 teams, and play 1 team twice. It's just not possible to play 11 games each, unless we want to pay more.

Early Wednesday morning, June 16th Nicole Murphy (24) died in South Africa while attending the World Cup with her father and 3 of her siblings. She was walking on a pedestrian pathway to her hotel with 2 of her siblings, when all three were struck by a drunk driver. Nicole died instantly, and her brother Brian (a 2009 STM grad now attending LSU) still remains in critical condition. Today, he is still recovering, not only from a major head trauma, but will also require at least two more operations to heal broken limbs. Once a team of doctors decide Brian's condition is stable enough to endure a lengthy international flight; he will then require a specialized medical plane, including a team of trained medical professionals to transport him to the U.S. The medical travel expenses, alone, will be in excess of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

All of the proceeds raised from the concert will go to the Home Bank Murphy Family Support Fund to offset the medical costs of the Murphy Family. Several locally-owned companies, including Popeyes, Theatre League of Louisiana, Pizza Hut, Schilling Distributing, Acadian Ambulance, and Acadiana Bottling have come together to put on this benefit concert.

SUPPORT FUND SET UP TO ASSIST LOCAL MURPHY FAMILY

In an effort to help a Lafayette family defray medical and travel costs in a tragic time of need, a support fund has been set up at Home Bank in Lafayette.

Several members of the Murphy family were involved in a fatal incident while visiting South Africa for the World Cup. St. Thomas Moore Alumna, Nicole Murphy, daughter of Dr. Danny and Charlene Murphy, was struck and killed by a car. Murphy’s brother, Brian, was also critically injured in the incident.

BRSA Special Forces Adult Coed Soccer Tournament

The 21st Annual Special Forces Coed Soccer Tournament will be July 24th and 25th, 2010, in Baton Rouge, LA. The tournament will be held at the newly renovated BREC Burbank Soccer Complex. Both Coed Open and Coed O-30 teams are invited to participate. Winners will receive free entry into the 2011 event, a team ball, and "Champions" Tshirts. Runner-Ups will receive a 50% discount into next year's event and a team ball. Teams must register online and either pay via credit card or choose the option to mail-in the $300 entry fee. All team registrations and entry fees must be received by July 16th.

Keep'em Kick'N Indoor Soccer League

Here are the details:

The league will be from the ages of U7-adults.

It will start in June and go through July.

Every team will be guaranteed at least 8 games.

The fees vary depending on age from $95-$75 a season

U7U8 will play 4v4 with keepers (8 players roster); U9U10 will play 5v5 with keepers (8 to 10 roster); U11U12 5v5 with keepers (8 to 10 roster); U13U14,U15U16,U17U18 and adults 6v6 with keepers (10 to 12 rosters)

All teams must have a coach!!!!!

There will be a semi final and finals for all age groups at the end of the season

As of today Ning (creators of our social networking site) have announced they will be discontinuing their free services in 30 days. The minimum cost to keep Lafayette Soccer running would be $200 a year. With this in mind, the social networking site will no longer exist in 30 days.

This means that we will no longer be able to have lafayettesoccer.ning.com starting May 5th. What Erik and I would like to know is what everyone would like to do next. There are a couple options depending on how most of you use this site.

1) End the social networking site and just use this blog
2) Use the Facebook group
3) Use another service similar to Ning and create a new Lafayette Soccer Network

Please let us know what you use the site for and your opinion on the next option.

We our proud to announce our 2nd annual LYSA/CSC golf tournament. The event will be hosted at Acadian Hills on April the 16th for an 8am shotgun scramble.please bring your teams and come out for a good cause and a fun day in the sun!!!!
